Nutt was sacked by the Home Secretary last November as chair of the UK Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, or ACMD, for arguing against government policy on drug classification. He defended himself by saying that his proposal to downgrade cannabis and ecstasy reflected scientific evidence.
